The 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games will be held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, in 2017. This will be the first OCA Games to be held in the Central Asian country. The host city contract signing ceremony took place in Kuwait on December 19, 2010.
The 5th AIMAG will take place in the Olympic Village, a multi-purpose sports facility which is being constructed in the capital. The complex will feature 30 venues, and the first phase of construction is estimated at USD2 billion.
The 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games is the first international sports event for Turkmenistan. According to Osman Karakus, coordinator of Polimeks Construction Company, the first phase of the vast Olympic Complex in Ashgabat city is 85 per cent complete. The work will be completed by April 2014.
The sports facilities in phase two are 10 per cent complete, and the main project for phase three, which includes a 45,000-capacity Olympic Stadium, will be finished in early 2017.
